“I have to go now.” He whispered. There was an awkward silence between them.

“So Jerome called me yesterday.” Angie smiled at Ricky over the rim of her coffee mug. “Won’t it be lovely for you to call him back?”

“Lovely?” Ricky agreed enthusiastically. The last thing he needed was to call or hear from Jerome. It was the only bad thing in an otherwise bleak prospect.

He had contemplated creating some excuse to get out of a situation like this but it was too late. Ricky felt the tension between them like an electric filament ready to burn at the touch of a switch.

“You have to talk to him, he wants the money or we die.” Angie said.

“I’m not talking to him or going through with your plans.” He flicked a glance at Angie’s unsmiling face. The least he could have done was call him back. She thought crossly.

“Where the hell did that come from?”

“I’m done with this kind of game. I have a feeling that something bad is going to happen.” She pulled her chair far enough to look at his face.

“You can’t back down on this, we had an agreement. I suspected my uncle would leave his stupid daughter all his money that’s why you had to tag along.”
