With a heavy heart, she started back. Miguel and Diane waited patiently at the car. As she bent to pick up her sandals, the woman gasped. She glanced sideways. The woman’s face was filled with horror. Why is she...?Icy water rushed over her. TIDAL WAVE. Her mind registered, before icy, wet hands grabbed and yanked her into the depths of darkness.

Miguel watched Alex descend the stairs, walk towards the water, and tilt her face up. What is it with humans’ fascination with the sun? He growled. Like moths to a candle, they would spend hours in its rays.

He turned to Diane. “How long do you think she will be down there?” he asked impatient as his skin itched.

“Don’t know,” she answered honestly. “If we are lucky, half an hour.”

“Great, just great,” he growled, scratching his exposed skin.

Frowning. “Did you remember to apply the cream Joseph gave you?”

“Of course, I have. Do you think I would risk having blisters for a year? I still itch,” he complained.

“As soon as your skin gets used to sunlight, it will become easier, I promise.”

“We are creatures of the night; we shouldn’t be reduced to babysitting a spoilt human.”

“Alex is not spoiled!” she snapped.
