Clarity promised him that half of the plantation could be in her name if he would let her go to New York to this skating school to try out for competion. William escorted Clarity to New York for her audition. The director said she was a natural. When he saw her skating she looked like a butterfly taking off on a flight.The director also said that she was competion material and skate at the olympics in a couple of years. The skating she did during her school years had her gotten her ready. William paid for classes and expenses
When he arrived back home she had been given half of the plantation. That did not keep William from being tried for non compliance with the federal government. He was found guilty and sentenced to five years in a federal prison. The federal judge gave him a week to get his things in order. It didn't take him a week to disappear. He put his half of the plantation in his lawyer's name. Nobody seemed to know exactly where he disappeared to but he now considered a fugitive from the law.
The federal government was using him as an example on what will happen to you if you try to play hardball with them. Clarity knew but didn't speak up. He went overseas to where Willow and Harmony lived and knew he would be safe. There was no extradition law in that country. Clarity had a very quick call from Willow telling her that they had a new visitor and she would be able to see that person when she came to compete the next summer. Here in America Clarity was making a name for herself. She was excelling so quickly her nickname became the American Butterfly
