In the wee hours of the morning, I woke up to the familiar ringing of my phone. I was on the couch face down with a quilt drawn over me and my fingers being licked by Rufus which meant Fred was here.

"Long night?" Without looking around I knew he held a steaming cup of coffee. Extra cream and sugar."Ever heard of knocking?"

"I did. Ten times actually. . . but I can go if you want and leave with this delicious cup of extra cream and sugar coffee."

"Shut up," I sat up and took the cup from his hand hauntily and brought it to my mouth.

"I'm going to set you up with Donna."

"Why?" Fred went on his knees on the carpeted floor in front Rufus who enjoyed the attention that was being offered.

"That's exactly why." He stood and came over where I sat. "Allie, I'm a dork, both of us are really. The only difference is that you're hot and I'm not."

My heart squeezed at his insecurity. His green eyes though covered with rimmed glasses could make any girl stop and stare. He was lean although he wasn't all muscles but neither did he have a pot belly.

"You're a great catch, Fred."

"You say that 'cause we're best friends. How was that date anyway?" Smooth Fred. Real smooth.
