The next day Silver Devil started to get an uneasy feeling? He saw the two police cars the day before outside the motel office and last night another police officer was inside the library. Could the authorities be on to him? Maybe one of the girls had said something in the chat room to bring suspicion on him.

He had been very careless with his two victims in the United States maybe he slipped up here in Canada without realizing it.

He knew a route he could take back across the border where he wouldn't be detected. He learned this while talking to a man he met at a lounge across the street from the motel. The subject came up about the security at the Canadian/ US border.

"That is such a joke those border guard check points," a man who introduced himself as Fred told him.

"Oh yeah, why is that?" William asked.

"I personally know of a dozen ways to cross the border without going through those check points. I should know because I was raised here in Canada and do it all the time. I'm quite certain there are probably a couple dozen more ways also," Fred replied.

William bought Fred a couple of drinks while the two sat there talking. It wasn't long before William had all the information he needed to safely return undetected to the United States.

If Scotland Yard suspected him of being in Canada he didn't think they would believe he would come back into the United States so soon. He had enough money to secure passage aboard a freighter bound for another country. This would buy him more time before the authorities could figure out what he did.

He packed his clothes in the trunk of the car and when it got dark he left Montreal and headed back across the border into New York. While he was going down a dirt road a Canadian police officer pulled him over to investigate why a car with an American license plate was traveling these back woods. When the officer walked up to the driver's side window William shot him in the chest at point blank range. He continued across the border and found a motel where he could park the car without it being seen from the highway and stayed there that night.

The next morning he left the motel early and stopped at a diner for breakfast. He figured it was time to get rid of Stardust's car. Although he had switched license plates earlier he felt it was only a matter of time before he got stopped for anything. When the police ran a check on the plates and found they were switched, he would wind up back in jail awaiting extradition back to England. After he finished breakfast he rode around looking for another car to steal.
