The last fight she had with her husband before their divorce landed her in the hospital with a fractured jaw and three broken ribs. She had no choice but to leave. This was not the first time his abuse had caused her great pain. As a matter of fact this was her third trip to the emergency room in the past two years. Each time he hurt her he would swear he would never harm her again. He was a carpenter and was injured while working on a construction site. He turned to alcohol to help kill the pain. He became an excessive drinker and started taking out all his frustrations on Donna.
Donna really loved him. Each time before she would lie and tell the doctors who treated her why she was seeking medical help. Once her husband broke her arm and she said she fell down the stairs. On the other occasion he punched her so hard in the stomach she bled internally.
The first male chatter to show any special interest in Donna went by the nickname The Enchanter. He was charming and Donna was glad to see him each time he would enter the room. He would tell her about some of the experiences he had while he was a police officer. It was exciting to say the least, especially when he told of some of the murder cases he had worked on. Donna could not imagine marrying a retired police officer although there wouldn't be any harm in being friends. Who knows? She might change her mind over a period of time. She also got equal attention from two other chatters whenever they entered the room. One was called Teacher who was supposedly a retired schoolteacher and the other was Moccasin Joe a retired realtor from Germany. They never entered the chat room at the same time.
Donna knew people chatted at different times from all around the world because of the time zones. It was exciting to chat with people from Australia, Germany, England, Canada and other places around the globe all at the same time. A chat room is one of the few media sources where she could do that. She most certainly couldn't do it on the telephone, not all at one time anyway.
Moccasin Joe was an interesting fellow to chat with. One could tell by his knowledge of the world that he traveled the globe and had been to many places. He talked about visiting places like London, Tokyo, Paris and Singapore. These were places Donna had only read about in books.
The third chatter nicknamed Teacher was a schoolteacher and by comparison to the other two his life seemed boring. He taught science which Donna knew very little about. Whenever he would mention a certain science project or fair his students participated in, she had no idea what he was talking about. Still he was very polite and always treated her very nice.
