Two miles up the river to the north there was a town called Mento whose principle purpose was as a place of trading. Many travelers, including the people of Hayshua go to Mento to transact business. Since those in Hayshua had no money, they would simply trade some of the things made in Hayshua. There were several shops that the Hayshua people would trade for money for use while in Mento. Some shops depended totally upon the craft work of the Hayshua people for their goods. The general store in Mento was also dependent upon Hayshua for many vegetables as well as some of the healthy potions which were sold in this store.
Some of the cats in Hayshua were later taken to Mento to lower the rodent population. The merchants of Mento were very pleased with this gift and offered gifts of gratitude to Hayshua for the introduction of the cat to the town of Mento.
Mento was developing into a larger town with many shops where goods were traded. Since it was on the river and had a dock, boats were kept there. A few of the outdoors shops sold fish which was a staple of the people in the area. Pottery made in Hayshua, animal skins from a group that traded these, and many other things could be bought in Mento. There was also a seamstress who made clothing. There was even a builder who could build a home for anyone willing to meet his price. This man was one of the wealthiest in town. He had built several of the shops in this village and owned a general store where many goods could be purchased.
