“That was something to see. Is this something you do each morning? I have never seen anything like that. I also felt very good observing,” Yousho stated.

“The hawk does not come each morning. I do enjoy him when he does come. I really do not know what is taking place. I just enjoy the experience,” was Kaori’s response.

The two of them ventured deep into the meadows. They spent much time together that day, but were back at the morning village meal and they sat together eating and laughing.

The Jontoo

Jontoo Day was a day that the village celebrated twice a year. It was actually a series of days in which several ceremonies take place. On this second day the women of the village were sent into the forest to hunt. The woman who brought back the largest kill was awarded the man of her choice to be her husband. The council judged the kills in order based on size. In that order, the women chose their husbands. Only the women who had reached age eighteen were allowed to participate in this rite. On this day, Kaori was of age to participate.
