On Amber and Ashley's first day in the seventh grade they only signed up for the mandatory Pysical Education class but did sign up for the junior high school newspaper. When asked what subjects they wanted to report on Amber said fund raising while Ashley said she would be the photographer while Amber would be the reporter.
One of the fund raising project was for the new community center. In the list of events to be held was a cake walk, bake sale, raffling off a quilt that a group of women from their church had made., among events for the holidays. The school was having a Fall festival with several booths open for rent from crafters selling their items. The school would get their money by renting the booths out.
For Halloween there was a hayride through a haunted maze. For Thanksgiving the seventh graders and their parents would be serving dinner to the community especially people who was home bound. The Christmas event was a Santa house and taking pictures of young children with Santa.
When the girls arrived home with their list of school classes aunt Rosa wanted to know if they had made the cheerleading squad. Amber spoke up and told her no so they signed up for the newspaper. Ashley added to what Amber said stating they had been approved and showed their aunt the events thay would be covering the first half of the school year.
