Linda was now alone in her bedroom, at the house that had been her parents'. She remembered how her and Bill had talked a week before. He'd seemed to want her more. Things had been well then. He had seemed to want her to stay. But she'd still noticed even then, that he had not been saying it all. There had been something he was hiding.

There had been something that was making him sad. That other night, after their long talk during day, he had gone with her to the club. She had hoped to see Roselyn there. Most people seemed shocked when they saw the couple together, but none had bothered to approach them. Linda had hoped that she would see Roselyn and share with her a few things. But she'd not seen her. Then there was that phone call. Huh! The phone call that had bothered Bill so much. She had seen it, he had not picked it and when he finally did, he had told the caller to give him some time to think. But he had seemed uncomfortable talking to the person in Linda's presence.

Linda had pretended not to be concerned as much, avoiding putting Bill under pressure. Although he had made his interest in her clear and she was sure she felt the same way about him. Though He'd not seemed like a man she would trust much. He'd still held secrets. Secrets that he was not ready to share. Should she bother to find out? Did she really want him? Of course. A little voice inside her whispered. She sensed it was a voice from her own heart. Or even her soul. It was whispering to her directly. Not with the way Bill's touch made her feel. His voice was even enough. To set her on fire and disorganize her bowls. She'd seen it that night at the club when he had excused himself to go to the loo and had come back. She had not seen him come back. She had been standing up the VIP section, where he had stood the last time she'd been in that club. It was where their eyes had had that contact. Where she'd always pictured him whenever he mentioned the club.

She'd not seen him, but she'd sensed him. First, she'd felt the hair on her back rise, then she had felt the sensation in the air before she'd even turned. When he'd breathed close to her ear from the back, her heart had started pumping rapidly. She'd known it was Bill. There and then. It was funny how she was so drawn to him especially in the nights. He was a nocturnal. Her nocturnal lover. He'd always shown himself to her in the night. Right from the first day she'd entered the club several weeks ago, to the nights he had found her laying by the road. The night with the police. The way this man had come to her life was a mystery. Especially in the nights.
