Mandisa’s heart went out to him. She wanted to hold him in her arms and tell him that everything was going to be okay. She wanted to make things better for him but she didn’t know how. Rose hated him and Mandisa didn’t know how to change that and that broke her heart.

Tebogo didn’t pretend not to understand her question. “It was the right thing to do. Tumi isn’t ready to be a father and he makes a lousy husband.”

What he was saying wasn’t new and he had known that all along but he had still came to Johannesburg and he had still turned their lives upside down trying to get Joy away from Sindi.

“I thought it was your mother who wanted Joy.” Mandisa said, her heart yearning to open up to him and love him. She wanted to touch his face. She wanted him to put his arms around her so she could hear his heartbeat. He was standing few feet away from her. He was facing her but his eyes were not on her. He couldn’t look at her and she knew why.

My mother’s reasons were no better than Tumi’s reason for marrying your sister.” He said with a sorrowful sigh. “She wanted Joy because she could have him and not because she loves him.” He moved away from her and went to stand by the window. Mandisa remained where she was, not sure what to do. He had stopped her from leaving saying they had things to sort out. She couldn’t think what those things were, however she doubted he was in the mood to talk right now. Not after what his mother had said.

“She will, you know.” Mandisa said softly. She placed her briefcase on the floor and joined him by the window.

“She is just angry at the moment and people say hurtful things when angry but once she calms down, she will come to terms with what you did and she will forgive you.”

Tebogo looked at her. His eyes were full of emotions Mandisa couldn’t identify.

“No she won’t.” He said matter of fact. “You don’t know my mother but she hates to lose.”

That wasn’t hard to believe. Rose was the most atrocious person Mandisa had ever met and she hoped she would never have to deal with her ever again.
