"Well there was something while Tumi and I were dating. It's nothing important but it made me wonder if Tumi was cheating on me." Mandisa looked at her. "He took me once to this concert, Dj Mzi was playing and everyone was there." Sindi went on taking for granted that Mandisa knew who Dj Mzi was.
"We were VIPs as Tumi was friends with Mzi and we sat with his girlfriend. While Tumi went to get us drinks, Mzi's girlfriend asked me if I was Tumi's girlfriend. I was shy at that time and felt weird saying yes so I lied and said no we were just friends." Sindi said embarrassed. Mandisa kept her eyes on her wondering if there was something to the story.
"Mzi's girlfriend said that was good because Tumi belonged to her cousin and she wouldn't like to know that I was being cozy with her man. I didn't know what she was talking about. Tumi and I never behaved inappropriately in public. He would hold my hand now and again or put his hand around me but we never kissed in public." Sindi said making it clear that she had been and would always be a good girl. Mandisa wasn't interested in all of that.
"Who is the cousin?" She asked excitedly.
"I don't know. I asked Tumi about it and he said she was a girl he dated before meeting me but he broke up with her the minute he knew he was interested in me. He told me her family were fond of him and found it hard to accept that they were not together any more. He promised to talk to her family and explain things. I assumed he did because I saw Mzi's girlfriend days later and she said nothing, in fact she had been friendly towards me and I assumed Tumi had explained everything to her. So I forgot about the incident." Sindi finished and drank her coffee.
"Other than that, there is nothing I can think of."
"Dj Mzi. Do you know his full name?" Mandisa asked making notes. Sindi shook her head. "What do you know about him?"
"He is famous..." Sindi offered lamely. Mandisa tried hard not to roll her eyes. At least Sindi had given her something. Now all Mandisa had to do was research Tumi's life in Jo'burg and the place to start was with Dj Mzi.
She picked up the phone. "Miranda can you come to my office please." She said and hanged up.
