“You have just made the worst enemy.” Jerome snapped impatiently, then swore and slammed a fist down on the edge of the table, making Ricky jump.

Frightened by his anger, Ricky asked uneasily, “Is that a threat?”

“Of course it is.” He growled. Ricky resented his contemptuous response to what he considered an empty threat. He crossed his arms on his chest and said. “See you around.”

CHAPTER EIGHT

Flora moaned softly as she sat up straighter in her chair and pressed a hand to her lower back. She arched against the chair as she tried to ease the dull ache there. She had sat more than seven hours before her laptop, working on a party plan for her employer. Her eyes burned from the strain of staring at a glowing screen, and every muscle in her body screamed from sitting.

“You know, you should see a doctor if you are not well.” Angie said. She chose a can of juice and poured it into a glass, then selected some fresh fruit, cheese and crackers and put them in her plate.

“I’m doing okay.” Flora responded. Angie drew in a frustrated breath, she wanted to earn Flora’s trust. “So, have you set the wedding date yet?”

Angie glanced up, met Flora’s gaze briefly, and then dropped her gaze to Flora’s hand. “Not yet, my fiancé is still touring the world.”
