Bringing her head forward, Sierra looked into my eyes. “I’m still not fucking you. Or giving you head.”

Laughing, I pulled her dress down more and took a step back. This is what I liked about Sierra. She had a way about her that kept everything lighthearted. “Damn it, I was so looking forward to you giving me head, too.”

Giving me a smirk, Sierra turned and began heading back out to the club. We both came to a stop when we saw Ryn standing there. Her breathing was deep and heavy as she held her hands to her sides, fists balled up. She looked at Sierra and then me. Clearly she was pissed.

“Ryn! Are you here with your boyfriend?” Sierra asked.

I sucked in a breath at the words as Ryn’s eyes snapped over to me. “He’s not my boyfriend.”

I attempted to hold back the delight I felt at hearing Ryn stress the fact that Dodge wasn’t her boyfriend.

“Oh. I just assumed since . . . well I mean. I couldn’t help but hearing y’all getting it on hot and heavy this morning. Yikes. I had to take a break from painting if you know what I mean.”

I quickly looked at Sierra, as did Ryn. Holy shit. She just put it right out there.

“Um. Ah. I don’t—” Ryn looked at me as I looked away. The thought of Ryn with Dodge turned my stomach.

Ryn quickly stood taller and looked from me to Sierra. “Looks like you and Tristan were getting it on pretty hot and heavy yourselves.”

Sierra laughed. “Just having a bit of fun, that’s all. Didn’t mean anything. Hey, we have a table on the other side of the club, why don’t you and your boy . . . I mean . . . your friend join us.”

I squeezed Sierra’s hand and looked at her as she continued to smile at Ryn. What in the hell was she doing? I didn’t want to sit there and watch Ryn hang all over Dodge.

Ryn quickly looked over her shoulder. I followed her gaze and saw Dodge standing at the bar. Turning back to us, Ryn smiled. “Thank you, but I don’t think that would be a good idea.” Ryn looked at me and hurt filled her eyes.

Letting out the breath I was holding, I looked at Sierra. “I’m not really in the mood for dancing any more, Sierra. I think I’m going to call it a night.” Sierra nodded her head. Glancing toward Ryn, I said, “Enjoy your evening, Ryn.”

Ryn opened her mouth like she wanted to say something. I was silently willing her to ask me to dance. Or maybe step outside and talk. Anything to keep me there. Instead, she nodded her head, turned and walked over to Dodge. She placed her hand on his lower back as he leaned down and quickly kissed her on the lips.

Fuck this.

I quickly started toward the exit. I felt Sierra right behind me. The moment the door opened, I sucked in a breath. It felt as if I couldn’t breathe. “Fuck. Fuck. Fuck,” I said as I placed my hands on my knees.

“Why are we leaving, Tristan?”

I looked up at Sierra. “She fucking saw me getting you off!”

“Good. She needed to see it.”

Standing up straight, I pushed my hand through my hair. “I don’t know, Sierra. Maybe she really has moved on. Maybe I just need to . . .”

Sierra lifted her hand up and made a funny face. “Don’t you dare say it, Tristan. Stop right there. Ryn practically admitted that Dodge was her play toy. She was angry when she saw us together. I can see it in her eyes, Tristan. She still loves you.”

Shaking my head, I began walking toward the truck. “No. She doesn’t. She doesn’t love me, Sierra.”

Grabbing my arm, Sierra pulled me to a stop. “Are you for real right now, Tristan? Did you not see the same girl I saw? The one who was so upset she was trembling? The one who looked like she was about to get sick when I mentioned her boyfriend? Yes, she very much still loves you and you . . .” Sierra stopped talking. Her mouth hung open as she looked into my eyes. “Oh my God. You got spooked. Didn’t you?”

I looked away and down to the ground as I kicked a rock.

“Tristan, you broke up with Ryn because you got spooked by your feelings, didn’t you?”

Swallowing hard, I lifted my head and dropped it back as I looked up at the perfectly clear night sky. The stars looked amazing, shinning against the black night. Sierra instantly picking up my reason for pulling away from Ryn didn’t surprise me. She was insightful to say the least.

Sierra took my hand and gave me a slight pull. I dropped my head forward and looked into Sierra’s baby-blue eyes. “It was last Christmas and we had been driving on my parents’ ranch. We stopped at one of my father’s hunting cabins and before I knew it, I was making love to Ryn and something I’d never felt before swept over me. I told her I was falling in love with her.”
