"The very fact that the Demons would dare attempt us here tells me that we should leave this place now, under cover of darkness. I must gain Lund with all possible speed before the enemy can muster a more brazen attempt that will cost us more in lives, and bring doubt to even our bravest strongholds."

Finrod agreed with the deaths of seven in his eyes. "We shall assist you with all speed, master Belloc. And may your journey be a safe one."

Belloc immediately sought out Anest, and joining him, informed him of their imminent departure. "We are leaving because the security of the fortress is compromised while we're here," said the wizard. "I think that for the time being, the fortress will be made safer by our absence. But if the Demons contrive to attack the Four Kingdoms in earnest, then it is imperative that we discover a way to allow our various peoples to protect themselves, as we simply can't be everywhere all the time."

Brogan, though a stout fellow, and tough as nails in battle, was nevertheless grey with apprehension. Grinding his teeth, he said, "Isn't there at least some way to warn people about the presence of these creatures?"

"There was a way once," replied Belloc. "Ancient swords were once imbued with special properties, amongst which were the abilities to detect and combat evil, which was virtually indestructible by normal means. These weapons would change colour or glow slightly, getting brighter as the enemy drew near."
