A farmer came to the liquor store late one Saturday afternoon. He had a farm west of town about fifteen miles out of town. A red, brown, and white painted horse he had was recently stolen. He wanted Ellis to look for it. He did not know who took the animal or why. It belonged to his daughter Donna. Ellis drove about that area looking at farms and talking to people for about five weeks. He finally found it on a neighbor’s farm five miles away. Contacting the police, they arrested the farmer, Jessie Kurtz, who stole it. The owner carried his horse back home on a trailer. Ellis got paid $250 and was thanked by the farmer and his teen aged daughter for finding it.
A man in a black business suit came to the liquor store. He was Neil Halpern.
He owned the Queen City Hotel. It was an expensive luxury hotel in the downtown financial district. This man had a car stolen from him. It was a white Packard limousine.
The limo was used to host guests in classy rides about town. He wanted Ellis to locate it and return it to him. Ellis spent weeks looking at police reports, driving and talking to people about town. He found it in a small garage in Sharon Amity. A young man named Charles Ball had stolen it. He was envious of the owner having such a car. Notifying the police, Ellis had this man arrested. He drove the Packard back to the Queen City Hotel. He was paid $500 for solving the case
