She agreed, and they moved to the table. “I fixed spaghetti and meatballs, salad and I just need to put the garlic bread in the oven. I know it’s your favorite and I wanted to fix something special. It has been a while.” She smiled up at him, having almost too lean back to see his face since he stood a little over a foot taller than her.

Once they finished their meal, having caught up on what they had been doing this past year, they cleaned the table and moved back into the living room. Once they sat down, he told her to explain.

“Well, as I said, the nightmares started about six weeks ago. The flowers started about that same time. First, it was ten white roses, no card. Then each week, the same arrangement arrived, but, one white rose was replaced with a red one. Today’s flowers had four white and six red. This is also the first time that a written card came with them. It worries me since it asks about my dreams. It is almost like they know what I have been dealing with all this time.”

“So what do you think has brought on the nightmares? Is it change, or have you become pretty settled here?” Johnnie inquired of her as he stroked her hand.
