Sara asked, "What's a telephone?"

"Well ma'am, it's a device-a small black box with wires attached to it-and it allows us in Washington to have a conversation with your husband in Arizona. It would be the same as right now with us talking across the table, only we would be speaking into the telephone contraption."

"Is this a paying job?" Roy inquired.

"Yes, sir and there are many more benefits than I care to take the time right now to explain."

Bill stood up and his partner joined him. They walked toward the front door. Bill stopped in the open doorway and replaced his hat on top of his head and then smiled.

"You folks obviously need time to think this over. Perhaps talk some. We'll be staying in town for two more days before heading back. Could you come to the hotel and let us know of your decision, one way or the other?"

Mr. Hunter pulled some business cards from his pocket and handed them to Roy. As Roy studied the cards, he was interrupted.

"You folks enjoy your day and thank you again, ma'am, for your excellent hospitality."

Sara and Roy walked to the door and watched the two men slowly drive away. They never moved or spoke until the two Marshals and their automobile was well out of sight.

"Oh Roy, what do you think?"

"I don't know Sara. The news is a bit overwhelming. There's a lot to consider. It means I'd be going to town to work every day."

"And you'd be paid a salary."

"That's true, but I kind of like my independence."

"The times are changing Roy. Plus you now have a family to support. I think it's worth thinking over."

"Alright, but I'd like sleep to on it first."

"Well, if you have a night like the one we had last night, you won't be doing much sleeping." Sara winked.

Roy grinned. "Who needs sleep when I have a lovely woman lying next to me?"

Sara smiled and bumped shoulders with Roy.

The next day Roy suggested the family go for a ride to town. He announced at the breakfast table that he was certain he wanted to take the job with the U.S. Marshals. After asking how everybody felt about his choice, Roy was persuaded he was making the correct decision. Everyone cleaned up and dressed in best clothes. Sara came out in a western dress and white blouse.

"You sure look pretty Sara."

She smiled at Roy. "It's a big day Roy. I wanted to my best."

Roy grabbed Sara and pulled her in tight, staring into her eyes. "You could wear a flour sack and I'd still think you look gorgeous."
