She sighed. "I hardly think you'd get much enjoyment out of buying me clothes."

His brows lifted. "Oh, I don't know. Do I get to pick it out?"

She stared at him. Was he being forward - or was she taking it that way? Maybe he was trying to say he'd pick something more appropriate.

His face turned red. "I'm sorry. Now I'm getting too personal."

She still wasn't sure how he meant it. "Is that what you're doing?"

He frowned. "Is the light red or green?"

"It's definitely yellow."

"I thought…I got a green light the other night."

Oh for…they could go on like this for hours. She stepped forward and met his gaze. "What color do you see in my eyes tonight?"

He looked wary. "Brown?"

"Bear, my parents taught me that it wasn't proper for a lady to throw herself at a man, but I'm losing patience fast."

He grinned and glanced at the house. "Let's take a walk." He held out a hand to her and she accepted it.

She wasn't sure which of them was creating the problem. Maybe he didn't want to get involved with her. Why did a woman always have to wait for a man to declare hisfeelings? What was so terrible about the woman declaring her feelings first? If she was interested and it turned out he wasn't, was it any worse than when the man blundered into the same situation? What if the man was too much of a gentleman to turn her down?

He squeezed her hand. "I have to confess that Mom told me she invited all of you."

She looked up at him. "Are you trying to say that you came to see me tonight?"

When he looked down at her, his eyes were filled with humor. "I'm not very good at this, am I?"

She shrugged. "Neither am I, but I don't have any experience. What's your excuse?"

He gave her a wry smile. "I've never met anyone like you."

"Oh…they were all experienced?"

He chuckled. "I don't know about that, but I've never met anyone who speaks her mind so clearly, yet leaves me wondering what she actually wants."

She stopped and stared up at him. "What are you trying to say, that I'm insincere?"

His face regained color. "No…I'm trying to say that I'm not sure you know what you want."
