Police cleared everyone from the immediate area before they approached Arflin's boat. Using a bullhorn Inspector Witherspoon called for William Arflin to come up on deck with his hands up.
"We know who you are. Your only chance for survival is to surrender immediately," he pleaded.
He waited for an answer, but still Arflin remained silent.
"I repeat. Your only chance for survival is to surrender immediately," he repeated.
About two minutes later as police were getting ready to fire tear gas into the portals, they heard the blast of a shotgun from inside the cabin. They waited about ten minutes as Inspector Witherspoon used the bullhorn to try and persuade Arflin to surrender. They believed he had committed suicide, but were still uncertain. As they cautiously entered the cabin it was apparent what had happened. Arflin had placed the shotgun under his chin and blew his head off.
True to his boastful words, he was never taken alive, but I can't help but wonder how many others just like him are out there waiting to take his place in this computer world?
