Usually the smarter a criminal like William Arflin is the more dangerous he or she is, a noted psychiatrist remarked.
One night William faked an illness and over powered a guard and strangled him to death while being taken to the prison hospital ward. He put the guards uniform on and walked outside undetected. Once outside the prison walls, it is believed he made his way to the coast where he stowed away on a freighter heading for the United States or some other country.
Scotland Yard Inspector Lance Witherspoon warned American authorities William Arflin might possibly be heading for the United States. He talked to several inmates who were told by Arflin that if he could escape he would head for America.
Arflin was running out of money and needed to find someone he thought would be an easy mark. He felt Stardust was the most vulnerable lady in chat at the moment and wasted no time in using all his charm to lure her into his deadly trap.
This type of chance encounter between Stardust and Dream Lover went on for several days. Dream Lover began to get even friendlier. He would always greet Stardust with a kiss and call her darling whenever she came into a room he was in and she would do the same if she entered ahead of him. He talked of buying a motor home and traveling across America. He would jokingly tell Stardust he wanted her to be is co-driver and travel with him.
He stayed online a lot more so he could make sure he was near whenever Stardust would sign on to chat. It wasn't long before Dream Lover and Stardust were the talk of the chat rooms. It seemed quite apparent wedding bells would soon be in order as Dream Lover proposed to her one night in a crowded chat room. Stardust accepted his proposal and he asked her to whisper him so he could finalize the wedding plans.
"We need to meet somewhere so you can get to know the man you are going to marry," Dream Lover said.
Stardust invited him to come to her home. She was on a fixed income and what little money she had she was saving for her trip to Myrtle Beach.
This was all the information Dream Lover needed. He now had her address, phone number and real name. He had taken advantage of the fact she was a lonely widow and seeking companionship.
"I'll fly down on Wednesday and get a motel. You and I can spend a few days together and you can show me around your community," Dream Lover suggested.
