"Really what happens if we miss this bus?" Avery asked.

"You like jogging, right? Cuz that's another three mile jog."

"Ah hell that… C'mon man!" Avery said suddenly reenergized as he sped past Jayden leaving him in his dust.

Just as they were approaching the corner, they saw the bus stopped at the traffic light.

"Yo! Hey BUS!" Jayden yelled out attempting to get the lady bus driver's attention.

"HOLD THAT BUS! HOLD THAT BUS!" He yelled again as he could see the light was about to change.

"Run Avery Run!" He yelled as his friend zigzagged crazily dodging in-between the cars as they geared up to go. Avery dashed here and there sometimes jumping and rolling onto the hood of a car to avoid being hit. Abruptly the sounds of screeching tires and halting brakes filled the air as cars suddenly came to a halt to avoid slamming into the kid. Jayden dashed out after him with his eyes locked onto the bus that was about to leave as soon as it loaded up the last passenger at the bus stop. The sounds of screeching tires and pumped brakes were immediately followed by blaring horns as several people blew their horns to express their irritation at the two teenagers crossing the street against the light.

"Whew that was close…" The two teens acknowledged as they made their way to the back of the bus. The bus was slightly crowded considering this was the Chicago Heights bus and it had passed through several neighboring communities and still had a ways to go first to Harvey Transit Center and from there it would continue north down Halsted St. to reach 95th and the Dan Ryan. That was a major subway station that commuted more passengers at more regular time intervals into the loop and then to Howard.

"Yup, but we made it. Now we're just one transfer away and then we'll be at the Supermarket and we can stock up."

"Damnit!" Jayden suddenly cursed.

"What?"

"We forgot our shopping carts…" He belatedly thought about the carts that they used to load up their supplies.

"Damn what're we going to do?" Avery asked as he kicked at the vent that housed the heating and air conditioning unit underneath the seat of the bus.

"It can't be helped…" Jayden said defiantly. "We don't have a choice... We have to go back." He continued with resolution as he slowly released the air he had been holding back in his lungs.
