Jacob looked at the neatly typed letter that was on his desk. Next to it was his pill box and a glass of water. He looked at his desk clock; 12:30 p.m. He shook out the four pills in Monday's tray and then threw them all into his mouth at the same time followed by generous swallows of water. It was time. Getting up from his desk, he put on his black jacket and button up the last two buttons. Picking up his prewritten statement he then headed for the pressroom. The room was already filled with media and a few close constituents who knew what was going on. His son Markus and his wife holding their newborn were standing behind the curtain waiting on him.

"Ready Pops?" He asked. Jacob managed a tight smile as he nodded his head and then patted his son on the back.

"You're the right person for the job."

Jacob then walked onto the stage where he was greeted with a small applause and a brief standing ovation. He nodded his head in thanks to those who were there to support him.

"Thank you… Thank you… He told his awaiting public as he readied himself to make the big announcement.

"My fellow Aldermen, Mayor, Constituents: Today I wanted to let you know that I am announcing my retirement effective immediately for health reasons." He didn't want to delve to deeply in his personal problems therefore he kept it general. "It comes with deep sorrow and regret for my lack of being able to keep my commitment and carry out my obligation with you for the duration of my term. I've served my community for a little over a year; I've made some new friends and fond memories and you all will be missed. I have really enjoyed my time while acting as your liaison conveying and carrying out your wishes to the government. I remain convicted in my beliefs of the importance of our traditional values of honesty, objectivity, impartiality and integrity in underpinning all the work that we do.

Turning to the future, I have not left you without leadership. Therefore it is with much honor and humbleness that I will be turning over the duration of my tenure to my son Markus Ellis. Markus comes to you as a graduate of Stanford University and Northwestern Law School. He has served under the tutelage of my former law firm and is dedicated to empowering and working for the people." Jacob's words were passionate and everyone could see that he was moved to tears and proud of his son. It was heartrending to see him speaking so highly of his son.
