During the off season of horse racing the Roland family still had quarter horses plus some of the throughbreds to take care of. The younger two of six children fed the horses while the two middle children cleaned the stalls and put the used straw in a wagon and the oldest two would bring up fresh straw from the straw shed and bales of hay for the horses to eat.One of the throughbreds was acting a little strange and Jeffery advised the children to stay away from her til his wife got back from attending a trainning lecture which she was the main speaker. Julie could tell the female race horse was having difficulty and when she laid down she was neighing ;oud and then she saw a leg stick out and she ran up to her father and informed him I need your help else the horse may die .
