"Can you show me?" I asked once again.

"If I shape shift now, I will lose my demonic powers until the new moon, and must feed to restore them," he replied reluctantly. "Combined, demons of the Goetia have powers threefold the strength of Satan himself. We are separated, but over time, we shall be reunited. Only God himself and Satan now hold powers greater than our own," he confided.

I could tell he wanted to show off his powers. And my pleading convinced him.

"There are only a few days left until the new moon anyway, I will show you," he agreed.

I had seen him wield fire, and his powers of thought, but was excited to finally get to see him master his powers of healing.

The sun was setting now behind the trees, and I stepped away from him, wading through water until it became shallow at my feet. Still submerged to his waist, Dantalion cast an opaque wave he controlled in the palms of his hands, encompassing his entire body. As with his other powers, controlled and effortless, his transformation from demon to human before my eyes was like watching an illusion, yet very real. His hair was much shorter now, still covering his piercing jet eyes. He waded closer to me, almost like we had never seen each other before, studying each other for the first time.

"It's amazing!" I ran over to him. "How long have you been able to do this?"

"Since my fall from the third heaven," Dantalion answered.

"Well, in human years?" I pried.

He grinned, this time showing a human smile. "More like two hundred…"

I didn't know what to say. He was condemned as a demon of the Goetia for two hundred years. He owed me his allegiance but all I wanted was to give him back his life, his chance at immortality. I hugged him, wishing we would always be like this.

"You know, I can stay here, with you. I don't have to leave do I?" I asked hoping he would agree.

"You can, if you don't mind sharing a realm with demons. They need to feed and you're being the only female human, it would become more of a bloodbath than an obsession," he replied with a smile.

The thought of my spending the rest of my life with him seemed simple enough, minus his thirty six legions of demons, and the seventy one still awaiting evocation.

It had been over a month since class ended for the summer, and longer still that I'd seen or heard from my friends.
