There were many spells we could use for protection to keep energies away without doing any harm. It was sort of like a talisman. The full moon spells worked the strongest magic, new moon spells were for new beginnings, love and romance. The waxing moon was for constructive magic. It was the waning moon that no spells were worked. This was a time of rest to regain energy.
The witches' calendar honored the four Major Sabbats: Samhain, representing the Celtic New Year, Imbolic representing the festival of lights, Beltane, representing fertility and many called it 'May Day', and Lamas which represented the first harvest and the end of Summer. There were also Minor Sabbats honored as well.
Professor Good thought Samhain was the ultimate night for the ceremony. She knew it was always best on the full moon. Witches cast the most powerful spells during its energy. The moon has always been referred to as female. She mirrors the stages of women, maiden as the new moon, mother as the full moon, and crone as the waning moon. She is forever changing as are we.
"Professor, I wanted to ask you something."
"Go ahead Laurel" she was curious. "I have had visits in my dreams. Or rather, nightmares. They've been happening a lot. I think a demon has been seducing me. I know it sounds crazy, but I have the scars to prove it!" I leaned over and showed her the razor sharp marks on my arms.
"How did you come by these?" she asked.
"I woke up from a nightmare and they were there!" my voice was shaky. I started to feel like she was going to tell me something I didn't want to hear.
"Laurel, some of us, the ancients, that practice the Craft, believe in past lives. They say that sometimes a soul is re-born in the embodiment of another." Her eyes grew wider. "Do you think that this demon you speak of could perhaps, be telling you something?"
"I heard him whisper the name of Lilith once or twice."
"My dear," Professor Good interrupted, "Lilith is a Succubus. She is a seducer of men. She comes to them in many forms, but only for lust. She is sometimes personified in the Craft as the Goddess of erotic dreams!"
My mouth fell open. My demon seducing me was calling out to her - to Lilith!
"Don't worry Laurel, if you use your gifts you will find the answer. Sometimes the answers are never clear. What appears to be one journey in a lifetime turns destiny into something entirely different. Visions and fate are not always set in stone. In the Craft, we have the ability to bend the future, to change what is necessary to make unheard of things come to pass. When the spirit of the soul is diminished, it is not necessarily extinguished. It only lies dormant , waiting for strength of the human spirit to lift us higher, stronger than we ever thought we could become," she smiled.
