Tebogo looked at her confused. “You just said you love me. How can you love me and not want to be with me?”

“I didn’t say I don’t want to be with you, I said I can’t be with you.”

Why the hell not?” Mandisa wanted to know. He couldn’t tell her the best news of her life then in the same breath take away her happiness.

“Have you forgotten what my mother did to your sister?” Tebogo asked looking at her strangely.

“I haven’t forgotten and I’ll never forget for as long as I live. Just like I’ll never forget you. The man who makes my heart skip a beat. The man who makes me believe in love and makes me want to give marriage a shot.” She reached him and placed her body against his and unlike him she didn’t tease him with her lips but gave him a promise he wasn’t likely to forget anytime soon.

“I love you Tebogo Motsepe. I fell in love with you the first time I met you and I don’t think I can survive life without you.” Mandisa told him as bluntly as he had told her.

“Mannie…” She placed her finger on his lips to shut him up.

“It’s my turn to talk. What your mother did to my sister is unforgivable but not entirely her fault. My sister and your brother allowed her to get away with it. Something I’ll never do. I can give as good as I can get and if she wants to mess with our relationship then she should be willing to get a taste of hell because that is what she will get. I’m a pushover on most things but when it comes to those I love…” Mandisa didn’t finish as Tebogo held her tight and took her breath away with his lips.

“That is the best thing I have ever heard!” Tebogo said in her mouth. “And I promise you, I’ll never allow my mother to come between us. Never.”

It was a promise Mandisa knew he meant to keep. Just like she meant to keep her promise of not surviving without him.
