She flopped back down on her pillow and let out a long sigh. Tomorrow she would have to talk to Justin about it. He'd probably think she was thinking it to death again, but this was precisely why getting married suddenly was an issue. Maybe they would have to postpone it after all.
Men didn't consider this kind of thing as a problem. Well, at least Dad didn't. She gave that some consideration and decided the issue might actually give her an advantage if Dad objected to their marriage Thursday.
The next morning, Mr. O'Hara arranged a meeting with his daughter before any other. He began with the logical objection that there wasn't enough time to plan the wedding. She explained that they could have a formal reception after they got back. They discussed her mother's probable reaction to that idea, and she even pointed out to him that it was their decision to make. When all the angles were considered and they still were at odds, she shrugged.
"It's all probably a mute issue anyway. I won't have time to start any kind of birth control that would be effective that fast."
Mr. O'Hara stared at her, obviously giving that issue considerable thought. Finally he stood. "Of course, all of this is up to you and Justin. If you want to get married Thursday, your mother and I will respect your decision." He glanced at his watch. "I've got another meeting in a few minutes. Let me know what you decide."
Megan could barely suppress a smile. In fact, she wanted to laugh out loud, but she was able to contain her amusement until she was back in her office. Her amusement quickly dissolved, though, when it suddenly occurred to her that Thursday was tomorrow and she had nothing done. At that point she called her mother. She wound up leaving work early and spending the rest of the day making preparations for her wedding.
To her surprise, her mother still had her wedding dress and it fit with only a few alterations. The rushed wedding may have been a blessing in disguise. She didn't have time to think about it and no time to notify friends. The fewer people who knew, the less complicated it would be.
She went with Justin to get the marriage license and at dinner they found a quiet place to discuss final issues. She made sure that they were in at a table far from the others before she hesitantly asked him the question that had been on her mind all day long.
"I've thought about this all day and I can't think of any proper way to ask you this. I guess this is where we start acting like man and wife...before the ceremony."
