Persephone sat with her husband, next to his black throne. She dreamt of sunny pastures and sweet smelling flowers, while he fiddled with his helmet of invisibility, debating whether or not to lend it to Hypnos.

"Shall I ever leave this place?" She asked him.

"In due time, my dear, you will be able to take a trip to the surface to visit your mother." He replied, not returning her gaze.

Persephone sighed deeply. She remembered, vividly, the last time she saw her mother, many years ago. She adapted to life as the queen of the underworld, but she missed the sun dearly.

"Is it almost due time?" She asked eagerly in her singsong voice, a voice that charmed him into doing anything for her.

"Two and a half months, Persephone. You know that." He was becoming annoyed.

She remained at his side, arms folded across her chest, her carefree smile turned into a frown. Persephone began to sulk.

"Stop it." He said curtly.

Persephone unfolded her arms and a smile forced its way onto her face.

Demeter laughed as Persephone danced among the flowers. The field was perfectly empty. The soft, green grass was wildly overgrown; it came up to Persephone's knees. Once Persephone was finished dancing, she asked her mother, "Can we stay here forever?"

"If you'd like." Demeter answered.

Persephone giggled as she twirled in the grass again, her flowing dress making white ripples upon her legs.

A small, dark storm cloud moved over the sun, and Demeter tensed. She knew something was going to happen. She called her daughter. "Persephone, it's time to leave." Demeter began gathering up their shoes.

"Aww, but..." was all that escaped Persephone's lips before she was dragged down to the underworld.

"Persephone!" Demeter screamed maniacally. Even though she didn't see the abduction, she knew what had happened. Demeter knew she must pay a visit to Zeus.

"Persephone's been abducted." Demeter spoke to Zeus.

At once, Zeus went to pool of crystal-clear water, wanting to know more. "Show me my daughter."

The water responded immediately with an image of Persephone being held captive by Hades, the ruler of the underworld. Demeter glanced over Zeus' shoulder. "Get her back!" She begged.

The king of the heavens responded with, "I can't do that."

"Why not?"

"Because he took her. She is rightfully his now."

Demeter began to sob. As she did, giant drops of rain poured down and a huge thunder shook the earth.
