Gladys wasn‘t sure what she expected from Edward. Her aunt said to be careful but still encouraged her to give him a chance. She explained that she had daughters of her own and knew young girls had to pair up sooner or later and get married. Gladys knew that but she would only think about marriage when she was sure they both loved each other. She was happy to be courted by Edward but she wouldn‘t end up in a convenient marriage.

When they got to the restaurant, Edward stepped quickly out of the car while she was still gathering her accessories and came to open the door and help her out. As they walked into the restaurant with her hand on his arm, she admired his consistent courtesy. They were soon shown to their seats and asked for their orders. She ordered stewed fish with seasonal vegetables while Edward wanted curried chicken sauce with a side of fried rice.

When the waiter had gone after serving their bar choices, Gladys looked around.

“So what do you think of the Sky Restaurant? You said you‘ve not been here before?”

“No I haven‘t.” She replied still admiring the place.

Sky Restaurant was a new place situated at the penthouse of Eko Suites, one of the foremost hotels in Victoria Island according to her aunt. The location was fantastic; it was in the open air and looked over the Lagos skyline on one side and the Lagoon on the order.

“It‘s a nice concept.” She just hoped they wouldn‘t have rain.

“No thunderstorms today, I promise.”

Gladys laughed, “Did you read my mind?”

“That was a very telling look at the skies,” he replied. “But don‘t worry; I have an agreement with the rain gods in my pocket.”

“What agreement? It‘s the August break after all.”

They both laughed as a waiter brought their appetizers. Both had ordered spicy chicken pepper soup which arrived in tiny bowls. It was accompanied by kebabs made of colorful vegetables.

“Have you finished packing?” He was supposed to be travelling to Abuja tomorrow morning for some business deal she‘d read about in the papers. Edward travelled often, either within the country or outside. It meant they didn‘t see as often as she would have liked but the times he was around, they were usually together.

“Yeah, all ready to move with the first flight.”

“Congratulations again, I‘m glad you got the Abuja deal. What does it involve?”
