“I think that‘s only one reason why they were so hasty in calling you. They could have waited till you returned to the country in the next two days. They probably found out about how we‘re related and concluded that you may be disposed to take Edward‘s side.”

“You may be right but I doubt…”

“Aunt Isioma, the people I met earlier are serious about taking over Bestman Group. I‘m sure they‘re on the market to snap up any of the shares they can get. I‘ve done some searches and talked to a few people. Edward may have to do some stock repurchase to hold them off. Either that, or at least get the owners on his side in a forthcoming general meeting which they also told me about…”

“This is more serious than I thought.” Her aunt replied after what seemed like eternity, “OK Gladys, I will do as you say. Give me a few minutes and I will call you back.”

True to her word, her call back came almost immediately, catching a pacing Gladys in mid-stride.

“Gladys you know, this girl has not touched this file since I brought it over…”

“Did you see anything?” Gladys cut in; the tension was wracking her insides. “Do you have Bestman shares?” She had been praying that her instincts were right. Over the line, she heard the rustle of stiff paper.

“I have in my hands the certificates for about four million Bestman Group shares.”

“Four million shares! That‘s a good seven percent or so.” Gladys was overjoyed, “It will certainly go a long way in helping Edward‘s cause. And you can vote on the shares?”

“Yes. Like most of the estate, my late husband bequeathed it in a trust to the children and grandchildren but we were able to change it in the courts so I‘m the executioner in Nigeria.”

“Oh thank God! Aunt Isioma, you have to call your lawyer right away.” Gladys knew that time may be fast running out, “We have to call them now. It is crucial and urgent that you let them know that you do not want to sell, at least not till you come back.”

“I will do that later and then if there‘s still time, I will call you afterwards.”

“Thank you so much Aunt Isioma. I‘m so grateful…”
