“So who is the lucky person?” He wouldn‘t be surprised if she used the opportunity to shop. She hardly did anything else since she cut back on her duties at the factories.

“I‘m visiting some new friends, no one you know.” She walked towards him.

“So you‘ve already made new friends in the few months we‘ve been here?”

“We‘ve been here six months and I make friends easily.”

“Now you explain it like that, of course.” He turned away.

“How did your meeting go?”

Chief Okrika stopped, “It was OK. Mr. Odusote is proving up to the task. He told me Edward returned with his fiancée yesterday from their trip and was surprised I already knew. There‘s new information though, Edward has split with the girl and moved to a hotel.” He laughed uproariously and his wife joined in. “Edward has his hands full trying to keep his business away from me.”

“He deserves it,” Mrs. Okrika hissed. “It is good too for that gold-digger that he took his frustration out on her. I wonder how she snagged his attention in the first place.”

The chief laughed, but there was an edge this time. “You never cease to amaze me.”

“What do you mean?”

“Nothing you can‘t figure out on your own,” He smirked as he walked away. He hadn‘t been ignorant of the feelings she had nurtured for Edward while he had lived with them. She had possibly brought what happened on herself the way she had made her attraction to the young boy so obvious. Now she was jealous of his woman. Well, they said hell hath no fury.

“Why are you being like this now, Chief? Aren‘t you pleased that you‘re getting back everything Edward ever took from you and with interest too?”

He didn‘t look back but spoke in a louder voice. “It is quite gratifying, I guess.

“Now you‘re talking like my Chief. See you later?”

“I may not be in the house then, but no problem. Have a good time.” He was planning to call that fiancée of Edward. That is if she still was. If she agreed, then he would plan for them both to meet somewhere this evening. He had a proposition for her that he knew was not to be sneezed at. He laughed as he went in.
